A Little Life Update

Image
Hey there friends, I've been gone from here for almost a year this time around! The last time I posted was in March of 2021. Life has been wonderful and crazy all at the same time. I'm so excited to say that I've got a brand new blog post to share with you. But, I thought it may be nice to share a little life update before we get to that. Firstly, I've taken on some responsibilities with our church. I do the scheduling for the kid's ministry. I am one of the teachers for our K-4th grade Sunday School class and I help with Children's church during service. Noah helps lead the youth Sunday School class and I got to chaperone our youth camp back in June. We took on hosting our community group every Sunday night for a while until we recently started meeting at our church building. All this definitely gives me a lot more to do with my days and I have loved being more involved with our church.  At the end of June, I took my friend Alyson and her friend Mar to a Sunfl...

Welcome to His Hill

Image
Hey there, I writing this to you from the dining hall at His Hill Bible School. That's right! I have officially arrived at Bible school and I've bee here since Wednesday. A lot has happened since then and my brain has been flooded with so many new things. Noah drove me the hour and a half from his house on Wednesday just after lunch. Driving up to the school I was really nervous. We arrived here early that afternoon. I was the second one in my dorm room to arrive. I think we have the best dorm room! We are in 1st Kings. It's the newest dorm building. We have five people in our room. There is Miranda who is a second-year student, Evie, Ellie, Brooklyn and myself. We have three bunk beds in the main room with a table, two dressers, a few chairs, a couch, a counter with a sink and a mini-fridge. Off of the main room, we have a closet with two more dressers and plenty of hanging space for the five of us. Off the main room is also the bathroom. It has two sinks and cubies...

Home in Texas

Image
Hey there, So, I've officially moved to Texas! I landed here in Austin late on the 31st of August. I will be staying with Noah's family until I move into the dorm at His Hill on the 11th of September. Leaving Canada was really hard but being here is also really nice. It felt like the whole week leading up to leaving was just one great big goodbye. That was really hard honestly. It was so drawn out and I was close to tears a few times. But, I haven't actually cried yet. However, leaving made me once again realise just how lucky and blessed I was to be where I was and have what I had. God gave me a wonderful workplace that gave me some fantastic experience and some wonderful friends. I learned so much there. He also blessed me with an absolutely one of a kind, amazing church. The teaching was challenging, brutally honest and purely Biblical. Every Sunday left me feeling satisfied and fulfilled yet challenged and questioning in the best way possible. The people there inc...

Brought Back to a Place in Time

Image
Hi there, Today I wanted to tell a few little stories. On their own, they wouldn't be enough for a blog post. But, compiled they will be. They all have a theme. Do you ever hear a song, smell a flower, feel a fabric, taste food or see a place that instantly brings you back to a specific place in time? That's what these stories are about.  The first story is what made me think about all this in the first place. One day last week I was walking to work when something caught my eye. There in the side of the path was a tree with some berries hanging from it; mulberries to be exact. This made my heart jump with joy. I gently pick a handful and popped them in my mouth one by one as I continued on my way. As I bit into them by taste buds brought me back to Alice Springs, Australia when I was about nine years old. There in my cousins' back yard was a mulberry tree. The 4-6 of us cousins would all climb up into that tree. There we would sit and eat berries until our hands and ...

Months 4 and 5: A Little Failure and a Little Update

Image
Hi there, For those who don't know, this year (2019) I decided it would be a good idea to read a book a month. Months 1, 2 and 3 went pretty great. However, in months 4 and 5 I had a little failure. But that won't stop me! So, what happened? P.S. I'm not good at telling you what a book it actually about so Included links to each of the book's Goodreads page so you can check that out if you want.  In April, I was supposed to read Eyes Wide Open by Ted Dekker . However, I only finished it on my plane ride to Texas which was May 4th. So, I failed to read that one on time. However, I really did like the book. I really love Ted Dekker's books. But, they aren't for everyone. His books can fall into the categories of thriller, fantasy, psychological thriller, horror and mystery. I've read a couple before this one and loved them. They make you think that the characters are living in our world and everything is good and normal. Then, as the books go on, you st...

Month Three: Isolated and Mandated

Image
Hi there, It isn't even the end of March and I am writing my blog post for my March book... or shall I say books!? That's right, I read two books this month and I already started my first book for April. So, quick recap/ update for those who don't know what's going on. In January I made a new year's resolution to read a book every month of 2019. For January I read Marriage Takes More Than Love by Jack and Carole Mayhall and for February I read Do More Better by Tim Challies. The links to each corresponding blog post are below if you'd like to catch up.  1. The Art of Resolutions 2. Month One: Marriage Take More Than Love 3. Month Two: Do More Better To be honest, month one and two were a struggle. I finished the books at the very last minute and wrote their blog posts a week into the next month. I wasn't excited about the challenge and wasn't super motivated. I was just doing it because I made a resolution and I also knew it would get bet...

A Trip to Texas

Image
Hi there, I've told all you about my hope and desire to attend His Hill Bible school in the fall and a little while ago I actually got to go for a day. Here's a little update on that. A few weeks ago I was in Texas for a little visit. While I was there Noah and I got to take a trip to visit His Hill. We got the privilege of sitting in on the morning classes and joining them for lunch. It was beautiful and wonderful. So, here's how it went.  It was a Tuesday and the sun was shining. We woke up early and headed out of the house around 7:30 for the hour and a half drive there. We drove through Texas hill country and chatted all the way. I was quite nervous but also very excited. I had seen many pictures and was excited to see it in person.  On my way to Texas As we pulled into the driveway it all became so real. It set in that this would be my home for a while. We arrived right at 9:00 as the students were gathering for chapel. we shook a few peop...

Japan Photos and an Update

Image
Hi, I took over 500 photos in Japan. I have chosen a very small amount of them to show you today. These photos are some of my favourites and I think to illustrate our time in Japan well. Each one has a very small caption explaining the photo a little. I hope you enjoy them! As for an update, I have officially published an update to my GodFundMe page. You can click the link below to read it. That's all from me for now! Until next time, God bless! Darcy-Rea http://www.gofundme.com/bible-schoolhis-hill Waiting to board our flight to Japan. We flew out of Siam Reap, Cambodia. We had a seven-hour layover in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We walked around for a while, got some lunch then found a spot to camp out for a few hours.  When we got to Japan we had a three-hour bus ride. It was beautiful but I couldn't help but sleep for most of it.  On our first day in Japan, we got to do some exploring. This was at a beautiful place called Oshino Hakai.  W...
