A Little Life Update

Image
Hey there friends, I've been gone from here for almost a year this time around! The last time I posted was in March of 2021. Life has been wonderful and crazy all at the same time. I'm so excited to say that I've got a brand new blog post to share with you. But, I thought it may be nice to share a little life update before we get to that. Firstly, I've taken on some responsibilities with our church. I do the scheduling for the kid's ministry. I am one of the teachers for our K-4th grade Sunday School class and I help with Children's church during service. Noah helps lead the youth Sunday School class and I got to chaperone our youth camp back in June. We took on hosting our community group every Sunday night for a while until we recently started meeting at our church building. All this definitely gives me a lot more to do with my days and I have loved being more involved with our church.  At the end of June, I took my friend Alyson and her friend Mar to a Sunfl...

A Snapshot of Life in Georgetown

Image
Hi there friends, Where am I, how am I, and what have I been up to? Great questions; let’s take them one at a time! I’m currently living in Georgetown, Ontario, and I’m doing wonderfully! I've been here for five or six weeks—I think—living with an old friend of my parents. Her name is Sarah (she has a blog too), and she's the single mother of adorable, two-and-half-year-old Katie. I came here for two reasons. I needed a place to stay, and Sarah needed help with Katie while she juggled working from home. It seemed like a perfect fit and so far it has been. I finished school at His Hill during my first week under Sarah’s roof. Then, this past week, I started an online photography class through Udem y , courtesy of my wonderful mother. Life, since moving here, has been fun, sweet, and adventurous. Most days start with sitting down to breakfast together. Then, Katie and I go off and hang out so that Sarah can get in some work or alone time. We enjoy playing in the backyard, going ...

Home in Texas

Image
Hey there, So, I've officially moved to Texas! I landed here in Austin late on the 31st of August. I will be staying with Noah's family until I move into the dorm at His Hill on the 11th of September. Leaving Canada was really hard but being here is also really nice. It felt like the whole week leading up to leaving was just one great big goodbye. That was really hard honestly. It was so drawn out and I was close to tears a few times. But, I haven't actually cried yet. However, leaving made me once again realise just how lucky and blessed I was to be where I was and have what I had. God gave me a wonderful workplace that gave me some fantastic experience and some wonderful friends. I learned so much there. He also blessed me with an absolutely one of a kind, amazing church. The teaching was challenging, brutally honest and purely Biblical. Every Sunday left me feeling satisfied and fulfilled yet challenged and questioning in the best way possible. The people there inc...

Re-entry and Reverse Culture Shock Five Months In

Image
Hi there, I moved here to Cambridge, Ontario, Canada just over five months ago from Battambang, Cambodia where my family serve as missionaries. I lived there with them and serving with them for about three and a half years. So, when I moved back to the west I prepared myself for re-entry and reverse culture shock. I wrote a whole post about it too. Click here to read it. But after five months of living here how have I adapted?  In my original blog post, I wrote about disorientation and disassociation. That has definitely stayed the same. Well, the disorientation went away but I definitely still disassociate. I have many homes; Australia, Cambodia, Texas, Quebec, Ontario. Home to me is more about the people, the familiarity and the way I feel safe in a place. It’s more about how I feel than actual place itself. Each of my homes are extremely separated in my mind. It’s almost as if they don’t exist simultaneously. I’m not sure why this happened. I tend to be very present whe...

18 Things I learned This Year

Image
Last year, for my 17th birthday, I shared 17 things I had learned that year. I’m a huge believer in everyone having something to teach you! So, for my 18th birthday, I decided to share 18 things I’ve learned this year. Many of these things I’ve learned from others. So, I’m just passing the knowledge on.  And to go along with this I've included 12 of my favourite photos, one for each month of the past year. 1.    When you give something fully and wholeheartedly to God, He’ll do great things with it!   I have a problem with trusting God. Sometimes, I fear giving up control to God, even though I know deep inside me that He’s the best One to give things to. I know He will take good care of it and He knows what's best for me. But sometimes I still struggle to give everything to him. So, this past year, I’ve been learning a lot about trusting Him. So many times this past year, He asked me to give something to Him and I hesitated. But every time I give it to Him,...

A 25 People Mission Team

Image
Hey there, The next few months are going to be crazy! We will be working with a mission organisation called Adventures in Missions (AIM) . They provide short term help to missionaries all over the world. Two of their programs are World Race and Gap Year. World Race are a squad of around 50 people between the ages of 21 and 35 who go to 11 countries in 11 months. In country they break up into teams of around 6 people. They help different missionaries and mission organisations with whatever they need. Gap year do a very similar thing. But, they are 18 to 21 year-olds and they go to 3 to 5 countries in 9 months. Just a beautiful sunset from our balcony  A few doors down is another double apartment. These teams and squads will be housed there whenever they come to Battambang. The girls will stay there but the boys, who are usually significantly less, will be housed in our house. My parents role is to watch over them all and help them if they need help. We will also he...

Where is home?

Image
Dear readers, Our house feels like a little slice of paradise;lush green trees, sun shining, bright flowers! Big walls surround the property making us feel isolated, bu in a good way. We feel safe, we feel like we have privacy for the first time in almost a year. It feels nice to be able to say that this is out home, that this is our space. We have enjoyed every place we have stayed in the last year and we are grateful for all the people who have opened up their homes to us. But at the end of the day we all like to have a house, a home of our own. I will be fifteen on Monday. I have lived in over fifteen houses in those years.I have loved every single one of them and I will miss all of them. Each one so unique and each one wonderful in it's own special way. I have called them all home in one stage of of my life. Where do you call home? Darcy-Rea
