Things I Learned at His Hill

Image
Hi there feiend, It's already been a few months since I left Texas and His Hill. Since then, I have been working hard to finish my Bible school classes online. I officially graduated last week. I've had a lot of time to think and reminisce about my time in Texas hill country and everything I learned on that blessed hilltop. I'd like to share with you some of the life-changing lessons I picked up there. It takes God in man for man to be the man that God made man to be. This phrase was forever etched into my brain. It was something that we were told at the very beginning of the year but was repeated and driven home throughout the year. When God made humans He made us to have HIs Spirit dwell within us. We were designed to live in harmony with God. Yet, our sin separated us from Him. The only way for us to be the people God designed us to be is to allow the spirit to live in and through us. " However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spi...

Lessons from The Hill

Image
Hi there, Sorry that I've been absent from here this past month. I know some people really want to know how I'm doing. I am doing SO incredibly well! I love it here at His Hill. This past month has been a whirlwind. It's been so crazy and fun and busy and hectic and wonderful. Texas hill country is beautiful. This campus is so fun. I just love my dorm and roommates. And most of all I've been loving my classes. I wanted to share a little bit of what I've been learning.  Thus far we have done Genesis through to Joshua as well as Romans. We have had a class on theological terms and even an etiquette class which I thoroughly enjoyed! We just finished a class on Bible study methods along with it all. Right now we are working on Judges, Ruth, 1 and 2 Samuel. Our teachers have been so wonderful. Usually, each week we have one guest speaker and two resident teachers. On an average day, we start the day off with Chapel which is worship and then someone will share thei...

19 Things in 19 Years

Image
Hi there, Welcome or welcome back to my little blog, I thought I may want to introduce myself a little for anyone who is new around here. My name is Darcy-Rea Theriault. I am half Australian and half French Canadian. I've lived in Canada, Australia and Cambodia where my family were missionaries. That's where I started this blog as a place to document my life and my journey. I am currently living in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada where I work as a barista so I can save up money to attend His Hill Bible school in Texas where my amazing boyfriend is from. I am also 19 years old as of Saturday!!! Anyone who has been around from the beginning knows that every year for my birthday I share some things that I've learned over the past year. Here are the ones I wrote for my 17th birthday and my 18th birthday in case you want to browse them. So, let's get this party started! 1. Latte Art! This may be one of the things I am the proudest to have learned this year. It may also be ...

Lessons from a Cafe

Hi there, I'm going to start this blog off by saying a HUGE thank you! I am incredibly blessed and at times I have been overwhelmed by it! Ever since I left Cambodia, over two months ago, God has provided from my every need and so much more. He has a tendency to answer prayers I never prayed and give me things I never asked for. He knows what I need better than I do. So, for everyone out there who have been praying for me, I want to sincerely thank you! Plane tickets were paid for, I was given places to stay, I was given so many warm clothes along the way including a bag full from a stranger who heard I was coming. I got a wonderful, welcoming church, a fantastic group of young people to study the Bible with and some great friends. I've met other missionary kids, which is a massive blessing I didn't know I needed! I got the first job I wanted and applied for. I now have a wonderful manager and co-workers. In fact, that's what this blog post is about; my ne...

18 Things I learned This Year

Image
Last year, for my 17th birthday, I shared 17 things I had learned that year. I’m a huge believer in everyone having something to teach you! So, for my 18th birthday, I decided to share 18 things I’ve learned this year. Many of these things I’ve learned from others. So, I’m just passing the knowledge on.  And to go along with this I've included 12 of my favourite photos, one for each month of the past year. 1.    When you give something fully and wholeheartedly to God, He’ll do great things with it!   I have a problem with trusting God. Sometimes, I fear giving up control to God, even though I know deep inside me that He’s the best One to give things to. I know He will take good care of it and He knows what's best for me. But sometimes I still struggle to give everything to him. So, this past year, I’ve been learning a lot about trusting Him. So many times this past year, He asked me to give something to Him and I hesitated. But every time I give it to Him,...

"What is love?"

Image
“What is love? What would you say love is?” I was asked this the other day and I had no clue how to answer it. But I’ve been thinking about it a little bit. I’d say I love a lot of people and if I’m being honest with you, I’d say I think I love them well. But what does that even mean? Since I started following God I’ve learnt so much about what love is, especially his incredible, perfect love for me. Jesus is the ultimate example of love. He was a walking, speaking, breathing example of true love. But I still can’t put into words what love is. I think everybody’s answer would be different. I don’t know if you can actually perfectly describe it with one word or even a sentence. But I think you can show it with your actions. So, to me, these things are love. True love is based on God and a reflection of God. God is love so he is present in every loving relationship, encounter or heart. He’s my inspiration and model for love. True love is unconditional. It doesn’t matter who they...

Living in Community

Hey there,  You know, having teams is tiring. Long days of sweaty work then nights of restless sleep. You’re constantly answering questions and fixing problems. Always calling tuk-tuks and taking people places. There’s always cleaning to do and people to help. Sometimes food goes missing or things get broken. There is always cleaning supplies to buy and bike tires to pump up. When they finally leave I’m left exhausted. I finally sleep longer hours and the house is decently clean. I get alone time and free time. I look better because I have more time to get ready and rest more. I don’t spend so much money on coffee or tuk- tuks. Our little PVT team was a blast! But at the end of the day I wouldn’t have it any other way. When they leave I’m left sad. Missing the hustle and bustle that never seems to leave the house. There’s always somebody to talk to or do stuff with. Weekends are filled with meaningful coffee dates and memorable adventure days. I have a reason to wake u...
