A Little Life Update

Image
Hey there friends, I've been gone from here for almost a year this time around! The last time I posted was in March of 2021. Life has been wonderful and crazy all at the same time. I'm so excited to say that I've got a brand new blog post to share with you. But, I thought it may be nice to share a little life update before we get to that. Firstly, I've taken on some responsibilities with our church. I do the scheduling for the kid's ministry. I am one of the teachers for our K-4th grade Sunday School class and I help with Children's church during service. Noah helps lead the youth Sunday School class and I got to chaperone our youth camp back in June. We took on hosting our community group every Sunday night for a while until we recently started meeting at our church building. All this definitely gives me a lot more to do with my days and I have loved being more involved with our church.  At the end of June, I took my friend Alyson and her friend Mar to a Sunfl...

Bone-Chilling, Breathtaking Big Bend National Park

Image
Hi there, Welcome to 2021! What a wild ride last year was, and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us this year. Noah and I had a lovely Christmas with loved ones. We—together with some friends—started off the New Year right with a camping trip to Big Bend National Park here in Texas. The drive was long, and the weather was freezing. But the views were worth every frozen toe. The camping trip was our friend Corbyn’s idea, and she organized the whole thing. Big Bend is a well-known National Park that sits on the US-Mexican border, and it’s usually booked up six months in advance. In response to Covid, only a couple of their camping grounds were open. Corbyn kept her eye on their website, and when someone canceled, she snagged the opening right away! She booked us two campsites—one for the 9th and 10th and another for the 11th so we could stay a little longer. On the morning of the 9th, Noah and I woke up at 5:00 AM and loaded the car with our camping gear. We reached Cor...

A Litle Reminder for Christmas 2020

Image
Hi there, I want to start this post by saying merry Christmas to you wherever you may be in the world right now and no matter how you may be celebrating this year. I know that this holiday season looks different for so many of us. So, as I prepare to spend my first Christmas with my husband and my third away from my family, here are some thoughts to hopefully encourage you.  I was having a conversation with my sister about Christmas and how it looks different this year, and she reminded me of something really important. All credit goes to her for this one!  She reminded me that Christmas is about Christ! Therefore, nothing can take Christmas away from us. Christmas is all about Christ, and we can celebrate Him no matter where we are or who we are with. It’s always more fun to celebrate with our friends and family over a full plate of homemade food. However, may this Christmas season be filled with louder worship, deeper prayers, and more gratitude than usual as we have the tim...

God's Plan For Our Engagemnet

Image
Hi there! I started writing this post on July 25th, 2020, which was supposed to be mine and Noah’s wedding day. I thought I’d take this opportunity to talk a bit about our relationship and all that’s happened this year. It’s been a wild ride. Buckle in, because this is going to be a long one, and I’ve been wanting to write it out for a while. Here we go! Let’s start with our engagement—December 22nd, 2019. I spent my Christmas break with Noah’s family in Austin. He brought me to the Trail of Lights, an event held in Zilker Park around Christmas time. It was stunning, and we had fun looking at all the beautiful lights. At the end, we went to see a giant Christmas tree, where he asked some strangers to “take a photo of us.” Actually, when out of my earshot, he asked them to take a video as he knelt and proposed. Needless to say, we were ecstatic, and once we were engaged we spent the rest of my break planning our wedding. We hunted for a venue and found our dream location tucked into som...

Beautiful Goodbyes

Image
Hi there friends, A lot has happened in the past week and a half. I wrote to you just after I came back early from spring break in Canada. When I came back to school I was told that it would be remaining open as long as the government would allow us to be open. I got back to Texas on the Tuesday (March 17th) and I was grateful to be back in Texas as many students chose to go home or not come back to school after the break. I didn't want to be anywhere else. On the Thursday (March 19th) we were given the news we didn't want to hear. The governor of Texas mandated that all schools in Texas would be closed for two weeks. They hoped that we could reopen after these two weeks and finish up our semester. But it would be re-evaluated after two weeks and we would abide by the governors mandate. For many students this meant they were going home and some wouldn't return. We were down to 25 students at this point. All of us who wants to stay or couldn't go home just for two wee...

Peace Amongst the Chaos

Image
Hi there friends, I am sure you are all aware of the global situation currently going on. We are all being impacted by this in some form or fashion. And so, I wanted to update you as to where I am and the situation directly around me and affecting me.  Firstly, I would like to say that I am okay and so is my family! I am currently at Bible school here in Texas. I flew to Canada on Thursday the 12th of March for spring break. I got to spend some time with my sister in Windsor, Ontario and then we drove to Cambridge, Ontario where I was living before I came to Texas. I was intending on staying there until this coming Sunday, the 22nd of March. However, on Monday our Prime Minister had a press conference which informed us that borders are closing. I immediately got some texts from people concerned for me. I decided that with the rapidly changing situation it would be wisest for me to return to Texas while I was able. So, I called my mother, my school and my travel agent. We wer...

Fear and a Unicycle

Image
Hey there, Today I wanted to tell you a story about a unicycle and what that unicycle did for me recently. This unicycle that I recently discovered in the storage room in the gym here at His Hill helped me address two of my character flaws. I was well aware of these character flaws and how debilitating there were. But this unicycle was a turning point for one of them in particular. Let me give a little background to my story before I begin. As I child I was extremely outgoing and confident. I was unapologetically me. I was fearless and courageous. I loved to climb trees, build forts, run around and explore the great outdoors. And I did it all wearing my favorite pink sparkly skirt and a tie-dye t-shirt. If I wanted to do something, I did it. If my sister or friend could do something, so could I. I was bubbly, always smiling and very extroverted. I had many friends and loved my life! My sister (AKA: my adventure buddy) and I as youngins.  But, when I was ten years old ...
