Home in Texas

Image
Hey there, So, I've officially moved to Texas! I landed here in Austin late on the 31st of August. I will be staying with Noah's family until I move into the dorm at His Hill on the 11th of September. Leaving Canada was really hard but being here is also really nice. It felt like the whole week leading up to leaving was just one great big goodbye. That was really hard honestly. It was so drawn out and I was close to tears a few times. But, I haven't actually cried yet. However, leaving made me once again realise just how lucky and blessed I was to be where I was and have what I had. God gave me a wonderful workplace that gave me some fantastic experience and some wonderful friends. I learned so much there. He also blessed me with an absolutely one of a kind, amazing church. The teaching was challenging, brutally honest and purely Biblical. Every Sunday left me feeling satisfied and fulfilled yet challenged and questioning in the best way possible. The people there inc...

19 Things in 19 Years

Image
Hi there, Welcome or welcome back to my little blog, I thought I may want to introduce myself a little for anyone who is new around here. My name is Darcy-Rea Theriault. I am half Australian and half French Canadian. I've lived in Canada, Australia and Cambodia where my family were missionaries. That's where I started this blog as a place to document my life and my journey. I am currently living in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada where I work as a barista so I can save up money to attend His Hill Bible school in Texas where my amazing boyfriend is from. I am also 19 years old as of Saturday!!! Anyone who has been around from the beginning knows that every year for my birthday I share some things that I've learned over the past year. Here are the ones I wrote for my 17th birthday and my 18th birthday in case you want to browse them. So, let's get this party started! 1. Latte Art! This may be one of the things I am the proudest to have learned this year. It may also be ...

Why I Blog

Image
Hi there, As I think we all know, I often have difficulties thinking of ideas of what to write here. I really do enjoy writing. But my struggle comes when I try to think about what others want to read about and what I want to write about. I was talking to somebody about this struggle the other week when they asked me " Well, why did you start your blog in the first place? " This was a very good valid question that has since helped me to figure out what to write about.  My reasons for blogging have changed over the lifespan of it. So then, why did I start my blog in the first place over three years ago? There were a few reasons. I first got the inspiration from my sister who has a blog of her own. But, it was a little more than just copying her. My very first blog post was written in April of 2016 and this is what it said. "I decided to make this blog (1) to Show people my creativity through my photos and (2) to give you a look into our life in Cambodia. I hope y...

Month Two: Do More Better

Image
Hi there, February is officially over now and March has begun. For month two of this year, I read Do More Better by Tim Challies. I actually procrastinated and read it over the past week and a half. It has 108 pages and ten chapters plus 11 pages of bonus content. So, it's really not a very long or large book. But, it was pretty good and here's why. The book is 'a practical guide to productivity' . It gives you a Christ centred perspective and guidance on productivity. the first few chapters are about what it means to be productive and why we should be and why?  "Productivity is effectively stewarding your gifts, talents, time, energy and enthusiam for the good of others and the glory of God."   -Tim Challies The next few chapters are about defining your responsibilities and your mission. This is super helpful because it helped me to see exactly what I have on my plate which really helps in knowing how to be productive in my specific life....

The Art of Resolutions

Image
Hi there, We're two weeks into 2019 already! With a new year comes new years resolutions. Many people make them and many people break them. According to this Business Inside article, 80% of new years resolutions fail by February! So, here's what I've learned about them, how to stick to them and what mine is. So, first of all, why do people make new years resolutions in the first place? I think that often people feel slightly (and maybe subconsciously) guilty about the excess we seem to have during the recent holidays. We tend to eat more food and spend more money. This makes sense when you find out that weight loss and money saving are the most popular resolutions made. I also think it's because it's the beginning of a new year. It's a fresh start and a chance to do better or be better than the previous year. You want to promise yourself that you'll make improvements. I think people set themselves up to fail in the first place. They give ...
