God's Plan For Our Engagemnet

Image
Hi there! I started writing this post on July 25th, 2020, which was supposed to be mine and Noah’s wedding day. I thought I’d take this opportunity to talk a bit about our relationship and all that’s happened this year. It’s been a wild ride. Buckle in, because this is going to be a long one, and I’ve been wanting to write it out for a while. Here we go! Let’s start with our engagement—December 22nd, 2019. I spent my Christmas break with Noah’s family in Austin. He brought me to the Trail of Lights, an event held in Zilker Park around Christmas time. It was stunning, and we had fun looking at all the beautiful lights. At the end, we went to see a giant Christmas tree, where he asked some strangers to “take a photo of us.” Actually, when out of my earshot, he asked them to take a video as he knelt and proposed. Needless to say, we were ecstatic, and once we were engaged we spent the rest of my break planning our wedding. We hunted for a venue and found our dream location tucked into som...

Things I Learned at His Hill

Image
Hi there feiend, It's already been a few months since I left Texas and His Hill. Since then, I have been working hard to finish my Bible school classes online. I officially graduated last week. I've had a lot of time to think and reminisce about my time in Texas hill country and everything I learned on that blessed hilltop. I'd like to share with you some of the life-changing lessons I picked up there. It takes God in man for man to be the man that God made man to be. This phrase was forever etched into my brain. It was something that we were told at the very beginning of the year but was repeated and driven home throughout the year. When God made humans He made us to have HIs Spirit dwell within us. We were designed to live in harmony with God. Yet, our sin separated us from Him. The only way for us to be the people God designed us to be is to allow the spirit to live in and through us. " However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spi...

Beautiful Goodbyes

Image
Hi there friends, A lot has happened in the past week and a half. I wrote to you just after I came back early from spring break in Canada. When I came back to school I was told that it would be remaining open as long as the government would allow us to be open. I got back to Texas on the Tuesday (March 17th) and I was grateful to be back in Texas as many students chose to go home or not come back to school after the break. I didn't want to be anywhere else. On the Thursday (March 19th) we were given the news we didn't want to hear. The governor of Texas mandated that all schools in Texas would be closed for two weeks. They hoped that we could reopen after these two weeks and finish up our semester. But it would be re-evaluated after two weeks and we would abide by the governors mandate. For many students this meant they were going home and some wouldn't return. We were down to 25 students at this point. All of us who wants to stay or couldn't go home just for two wee...

Peace Amongst the Chaos

Image
Hi there friends, I am sure you are all aware of the global situation currently going on. We are all being impacted by this in some form or fashion. And so, I wanted to update you as to where I am and the situation directly around me and affecting me.  Firstly, I would like to say that I am okay and so is my family! I am currently at Bible school here in Texas. I flew to Canada on Thursday the 12th of March for spring break. I got to spend some time with my sister in Windsor, Ontario and then we drove to Cambridge, Ontario where I was living before I came to Texas. I was intending on staying there until this coming Sunday, the 22nd of March. However, on Monday our Prime Minister had a press conference which informed us that borders are closing. I immediately got some texts from people concerned for me. I decided that with the rapidly changing situation it would be wisest for me to return to Texas while I was able. So, I called my mother, my school and my travel agent. We wer...

Power and Humility

Hey there, A while back I had to write a paper for one of my classes. Nothing big. Just one page about a person or event in 1 or 2 Samuel that stood out to me, spoke to me or taught me something. I thought I might as well share it with you. 2 Samuel 7:18-19a Then David the king went in and sat before the Lord, and he said, “Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that you have brought me this far? And yet this was insignificant in your eyes, O Lord God, for You have spoken also of the house of Your servant concerning the distant future. First and Second Samuel have been some of my favorite books to study in class so far because they are so full of beautiful and encouraging stories. How was I to choose just one to write about? For my interactive paper, I originally chose to write about 1 Samuel 24:5 which speaks of David’s strong conscience after cutting off a corner of Saul’s robe in a cave. However, as I read and reread and wrote and rewrote our memory verse from ...

Fear and a Unicycle

Image
Hey there, Today I wanted to tell you a story about a unicycle and what that unicycle did for me recently. This unicycle that I recently discovered in the storage room in the gym here at His Hill helped me address two of my character flaws. I was well aware of these character flaws and how debilitating there were. But this unicycle was a turning point for one of them in particular. Let me give a little background to my story before I begin. As I child I was extremely outgoing and confident. I was unapologetically me. I was fearless and courageous. I loved to climb trees, build forts, run around and explore the great outdoors. And I did it all wearing my favorite pink sparkly skirt and a tie-dye t-shirt. If I wanted to do something, I did it. If my sister or friend could do something, so could I. I was bubbly, always smiling and very extroverted. I had many friends and loved my life! My sister (AKA: my adventure buddy) and I as youngins.  But, when I was ten years old ...

Lessons from The Hill

Image
Hi there, Sorry that I've been absent from here this past month. I know some people really want to know how I'm doing. I am doing SO incredibly well! I love it here at His Hill. This past month has been a whirlwind. It's been so crazy and fun and busy and hectic and wonderful. Texas hill country is beautiful. This campus is so fun. I just love my dorm and roommates. And most of all I've been loving my classes. I wanted to share a little bit of what I've been learning.  Thus far we have done Genesis through to Joshua as well as Romans. We have had a class on theological terms and even an etiquette class which I thoroughly enjoyed! We just finished a class on Bible study methods along with it all. Right now we are working on Judges, Ruth, 1 and 2 Samuel. Our teachers have been so wonderful. Usually, each week we have one guest speaker and two resident teachers. On an average day, we start the day off with Chapel which is worship and then someone will share thei...

Welcome to His Hill

Image
Hey there, I writing this to you from the dining hall at His Hill Bible School. That's right! I have officially arrived at Bible school and I've bee here since Wednesday. A lot has happened since then and my brain has been flooded with so many new things. Noah drove me the hour and a half from his house on Wednesday just after lunch. Driving up to the school I was really nervous. We arrived here early that afternoon. I was the second one in my dorm room to arrive. I think we have the best dorm room! We are in 1st Kings. It's the newest dorm building. We have five people in our room. There is Miranda who is a second-year student, Evie, Ellie, Brooklyn and myself. We have three bunk beds in the main room with a table, two dressers, a few chairs, a couch, a counter with a sink and a mini-fridge. Off of the main room, we have a closet with two more dressers and plenty of hanging space for the five of us. Off the main room is also the bathroom. It has two sinks and cubies...
