A Couple of Moving Tips and a Lot of Gratitude

Image
Hi there, I think we're all well aware of the fact that I've moved across the world multiple times! The first time I was 2 months old when my family moved from Canada to Australia. The next time was 10 when we moved back to Canada from Australia. Four years later we moved from Canada to Cambodia. Then I moved for the first time alone from Cambodia to Canada via Australia for two weeks and Texas for another two weeks. This time I'm not moving quite so far. Just down to Texas. A four-hour flight away. So, through all these moves I've definitely made some mistake and through those mistakes, I've learned a lot!  Get your ducks in a row! By this is mean get organized by writing a list! This has helped me tremendously in this specific move. I have a lot to do in preparation. So, when I first got here I sat down wrote a list of all the things I had to do. Then, on each of my days off, I chose one to tackle. That gave me ten months to check off the whole list. I tr...

Re-entry and Reverse Culture Shock Five Months In

Image
Hi there, I moved here to Cambridge, Ontario, Canada just over five months ago from Battambang, Cambodia where my family serve as missionaries. I lived there with them and serving with them for about three and a half years. So, when I moved back to the west I prepared myself for re-entry and reverse culture shock. I wrote a whole post about it too. Click here to read it. But after five months of living here how have I adapted?  In my original blog post, I wrote about disorientation and disassociation. That has definitely stayed the same. Well, the disorientation went away but I definitely still disassociate. I have many homes; Australia, Cambodia, Texas, Quebec, Ontario. Home to me is more about the people, the familiarity and the way I feel safe in a place. It’s more about how I feel than actual place itself. Each of my homes are extremely separated in my mind. It’s almost as if they don’t exist simultaneously. I’m not sure why this happened. I tend to be very present whe...

All this Distance

Image
Hi, Recently I've been struggling with what I should write about. I try to write a blog post that will interest my readers but that I am also passionate about. I always want to please you but also be proud of whatever I'm putting out there.  Usually, this means writing about travelling, a recent experience or changes in my life. But, today I decided to write about something a little more abstract. I want to talk about relationships. Specifically, long-distance relationships. This doesn't have to mean a romantic relationship. It can be friends that live far away or family that isn't close. These relationships can be extremely challenging. So, let's chat about long distance relationships! So, you know how I said long distance relationships don't have to be romantic? Well, they can be. If you know me at all you'll know that I have a boyfriend and he's from Texas. That means he's 2122km or 1131miles away! We've been dating for seven months an...

Lessons from a Cafe

Hi there, I'm going to start this blog off by saying a HUGE thank you! I am incredibly blessed and at times I have been overwhelmed by it! Ever since I left Cambodia, over two months ago, God has provided from my every need and so much more. He has a tendency to answer prayers I never prayed and give me things I never asked for. He knows what I need better than I do. So, for everyone out there who have been praying for me, I want to sincerely thank you! Plane tickets were paid for, I was given places to stay, I was given so many warm clothes along the way including a bag full from a stranger who heard I was coming. I got a wonderful, welcoming church, a fantastic group of young people to study the Bible with and some great friends. I've met other missionary kids, which is a massive blessing I didn't know I needed! I got the first job I wanted and applied for. I now have a wonderful manager and co-workers. In fact, that's what this blog post is about; my ne...
