Floating Village and World Race

Image
Hi everyone, This past week has been amazing! Our first ever World Race team arrived on Thursday and let me tell you... They are amazing! There are seven of them; three boys and four girls all from the US. We love them all. They are such an understanding, kind hard working team and we have enjoyed having them so much thus far. Then on Friday they helped us host our first ever Youth Group! We had about 26 kids come to our house. The team sang a few songs then Brittni bravely gave our first youth group message every and did a wonderful job! She told the kids about the reason we as Christians celebrate Christmas and why Advent is so important to us. We played a games and had some snacks too. Some of the kids asked questions and Mum and Rose, our translator, answered them as best they could. The kids had some fantastic questions and I'm sure many of them will come back again next week.               ...

Our Trip to Siem Reap

Image
Hi Everyone, Before I start with todays post I just wanted to say sorry for not posting the past couple of weeks. I've been very busy lately and just couldn't find the time to write. I was house sitting so I had more "chores" than usual. It was my last week of school and we went to Siem Reap for a while. So yeah, I'm sorry about nor being around much. However, Now I'm done with school for two months so I'll probably be able to post every weeks for a while! Anyway, since I've been so busy I though I'd tell you about some of it. So, Last Saturday (26th) My whole family and I got on a bus at 8:00am and headed to Siem Reap for a four day stay. The bus only sat ten people and of that ten eight of us knew each other so it was a lovely rid their with friends. That evening e got together again with some friends who were also visiting Siem Reap. We had Pizza and good conversations. On Sunday, our friends who live in Siem Reap picked u...

Ricky and Rosie

Image
Hi everyone, Today I would like to introduce you to Ricky and Rosie! These two came to us about a month ago. They're adorable, playful, healthy sisters. They came from a village outside of town and found have been sent to a pagoda if they had not have found a home for them. The story of how they ended up with us is actually a really funny story. So our friends the Ecks introduced us to Rose and Emily. Emily is from England and Rose is Khmer. They live really close to us with Rose's nephew Dom. Anyway, Emily put my mums number in her phone as Vince's friend as she forgot my mums name. When they got the kittens they couldn't keep them because they have two dogs. They decided to ask Vince if their family would like to keep the kittens. But instead of texting Vince Emily texted Mum having just read Vince's and not the full name (Vince's friends). Mum said that we would love to see they kittens so they arranged to bring the kittens around one evening bu...

Pailin

Image
Hello, Last Friday we left for Pailin in the late morning. Pailin is a boarder crossing to Thailand. We went  there to get a new visa. We had to get a one month visa because we changed NGOs so that we could make it into a one year visa soon. It took about an hour and a half to get to the boarder and we spent two hours in Thailand. While there we ate lunch and had a good chat with our friend Sovan and our Taxi driver.  A pretty, little, dusty lantern and the pretty, little, dusty restaurant.  The sun hit this cloud in just the right places!  Time for some lunch! Hmmm, what should I have? We got back to Battambang with minimal  difficulties. We were always able to go straight up to the windows. No lines for us this time around! Our Taxi river and Sovan were extremely helpful as well. It was a relaxing time. But we wont have to do it again in a while anyway! That's all I have for today. It's short by I wanted to write some...

NF

Image
Hey, It was recently suggested that I review something/ somebody that I love and care about. This isn't the kid of thing I usually do, but I thought it would be a good mid week kind of post. Enjoy! So, there is a lot of music out there today that isn't good, encouraging, uplifting. I personally love rap and I don't want to listen to boastful talk about drugs, violence, sex and money. I love Lecrae! He's fantastic. I was stoked when I discovered NF. He's a "Christian Rapper". I say it like that because he's a Christian but doesn't always rap about God and faith. He deals with themes like depression, bullying, abuse and fame. he gives God the credit for his talent. NF- Oh Lord When ya healthy it's like we don't really care for Him then Leave me alone God. I'll call you when I need you again. Which is funny. Everyone will sleep in the pews Then blame God for our problems like He sleeping on you. His lyrics are deep and make ...

To the Market

Image
Hi, So in Cambodia we get our fruits, vegies, eggs and, if you dare, meat from the markets. It a place where many people sell many different things. Sometimes it smells, sometimes its noisy and  sometimes its dark. But non the less its an important part of our lives. We go almost every day to get fresh food for the day. You can buy much more that fruit and vegies though. There is also plenty of rice! Well, that makes sense since many people eat it with every meal. It's cheap and goes with just about everything. If something isn't already pre-packaged you pay by weight. Chose your rice the chose your weight and they'll bag it for you. sometime I love going to the market, sometimes not so much. There are also these little shops that sell a whole bunch of random stuff. Coconut milk, Salt, Garlic, Soap, Soda and plastic bags just to name a few things. They are just full to the brim. It's hard to find what you need it them sometimes because it's so full...

Adventures

Image
Hi there, This past month has been simply and wonderfully busy. It was filled with new people, adventures and a visit from my lovely cousin. Firstly, an intern named Josh was here for ten days. he came and taught English as well as helping out with anything that needed o be done. We were able to take him out to the bamboo train and spend a few hours out there with a lovely women we know named Srey. Then, as soon as Josh left our second intern, Ernie, came. We got to do a lot more with Ernie because he stayed for just under a month. But a few days in to him being here our cousin Chantal arrived and mum went up and got her. Sadly, mum came down with dengue fever after she got back from the airport. Thankfully she is back to full health now. We got to do a lot of fun things with Ernie and Chantal. Firstly, Yannick and I took Ernie and Chantal on the Bamboo train. Jordy and Dad went on the motto and met us there. We spent a few hours there talking and hanging out with Srey a...

Fequently Asked Questions and My Answers

Image
Hi there, As missionaries we often get asked many questions when we meet new people and often they are the same questions. So, today I thought I would answer some of the most common ones. Let's go! 1. Where are you from? I am half Canadian (Dad) and half Australian (Mum). I was born in Canada but soon after moved to Australia. We lived 10 years in Australia and then 4 in Canada. 2. How long have you been here for? We got here in April of 2015. So, we have been here for about a year and three months now. 3. And how long will you be here for? We don't know. We have no set date or even year. As long as God wants us to be here we will be here. I have to finish school before I though. So, I have at least a year and a half to two years left. 4. So how do you do school? I do distance education. I attend Brisbane School of Distance Education. It's all online. So, I have classmates, different teachers for each subject and I have to attend classes at a ...

He Gave Me Life

Image
Today I decided to share with you a poem that I wrote recently as I looked back over the past years and how far I have come since then. This poem describes my personal journey with God and a bit of my testimony in a way. The poem is titled 'He Gave Me Life'. I really hope you like it! He told me he loves me, But I didn't believe him. He told me he saved me, But I didn't care. He told me he hears me, But I didn't listen. He told me he holds me, But I ran. Then He gave me love, And I believed. He gave me grace, And I cared. He gave me peace, And I listened. He gave me life, And I lived. We each have a journey in life and mine has brought me through some tough times. But, now I can see that God was with me through it all and his love is above all things in my life. Now, because of it all, I am in a wonderful place living and growing each and every day. Remember that through everything God is always there; looking over you, guiding you, s...

A Letter to Me

Image
If I could say anything to the younger me this is what I would say... To the 5 year old me, You have the right to wear a bright pink skirts whenever you so desire! Sure wearing a skirt to go camping isn't practical, but you'll always look amazing...and cute. Trust me, it makes for very cute photos. Don't you ever give up on your dreams and don't listen or live for other people. You are a beautiful human being. Don't listen to the bullies and their words. Continue living to the fullest. Remember to just be the bubbly, fun loving kid you are for as long as you can without caring about other people's opinions. To the 10 year old me, You survived and came out stronger, congratulations. You will grow even stronger over the next years. And don't worry! Moving to Canada is not the end of the world. You will reconnect with the friends you are leaving behind and that bond you have to leave behind will be even stronger when you find each other again. And you...

Millicent on Orlando (Rant)

Image
This is the rant of my friend Millicent on the subject of the Orlando shooting last week. One of the strangest things happened last night.... So I was going to upload a typical photo with a quote on Facebook anyway do you think I could find that perfect quote? well I did... Only it didn't match the photo but it totally made me freeze for a heck of a time and I ended up venting to a close friend for an hour!! okay so what did it say? "we cut and kill flowers because we think they are beautiful...but we also cut and kill people because we think their not..." Just let that sink in, you might have to read it again or a couple times I don't know but I'm positive you froze, or cried or got goose bumps or felt numb or maybe you felt the whole world stop for a second! So this was last night and I had no idea that on the other side of the world that this would become even more true than it was last night when I read it! It was quite odd that what I vented to...

Too Much to Lose (Story)

Image
There was a man who worked as a missionary somewhere in South America. He had been working in a Leper Camp. While working there he got to know a man who had been living in the camp for a long time. This man was very sick, in fact he was dying. He had no hands and no feet left because of the leprosy. He had lost his ears and nose too. He was a very sick man. The leper owned only two small things; a tin can and a small wooden spoon, nothing of much value if you ask me. When food was brought to him, they would put it in his little tin can. He would then use his arm stumps to lift the tin to his mouth and eat. He was a very poor, very sick man. Now this missionary man had been working with the leper for a while now, but he had to return to America. On his last day in the camp the missionary man, along with a translator, talk to the leper for the last time and begged him to accept Jesus as he was so close to dying. But the leper looked up at the missionary and...
